MOL PLUS to Invest in ZABoooN

~ Promoting Efficiency of Ship management/Operation through Digital Transformation, and Expanding Overseas Business ~

· News

TOKYO—MOL PLUS Co., Ltd. (CEO: Takuya Sakamoto; Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo) today announced its decision to invest in ZABoooN, Inc. (President/CEO: Katsuya Todaka; Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo), which develops and operates ship management platforms.

ZABoooN’s MARITIME 7 cloud-based service is designed to address industry-specific issues and solve various problems in the maritime industry—namely seafarer shortages in the coastal shipping industry and work overload due to complicated rules—through the power of digital technology. The introduction of MARITIME 7 provides solutions in the following areas:

  1. Seafarer labor management: The system simplifies management of working hours for seafarers—processes some companies are still doing on paper—in accordance with the revised Mariners Act.
  2. Ship operating management: Visualization of AIS data (used for mutual exchange of navigational information between vessels) necessary for operation, accumulation of operational history data, and formulation of operational plans can be managed centrally.
  3. Ship supply order management: One-stop management of ship equipment inventory, ordering, and delivery, simplifying traditional paper or Excel management.
  4. Report management: Digitize and centrally manage a wide variety of reports coming from vessels. Accumulated numbers are visualized on a dashboard. In the past, information was exchanged separately for each vessel and for each destination, but the platform enables related parties to view necessary information, greatly improving operational efficiency.

Applications for each function are also under development, enabling offline use on vessels without Wi-Fi and in waters with poor reception.

MOL PLUS is pleased to participate in this fundraising in the hope that ZABoooN’s platforms will significantly contribute to addressing the seagoing labor shortage in the maritime industry and improving the efficiency of ship management and operating management. MARITIME 7 is already in use—and highly regarded—by several MOL Group companies for ship management and operating management. In addition to the joint development of new functions for MARITIME 7 in cooperation with the MOL Group and ZABoooN’s stakeholders, MOL PLUS will work to expand the application of MARITIME 7 beyond the coastal vessel market.

MOL PLUS continually works to generate synergetic effects based on startup companies’ innovative ideas and technologies and the MOL Group’s resources through investment in and collaboration with startups, aiming to create new businesses PLUS new value to the ocean shipping industry and society.
