TOKYO—MOL PLUS Co., Ltd. (CEO: Takuya Sakamoto; Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo) today announced its intent to invest in EneCoat Technologies Co., Ltd. (President and CEO: Naoya Kato; Head Office: Kuse-gun, Kyoto-fu) that develops, manufactures, and sells perovskite solar cells and related materials.
EneCoat is a Kyoto University startup developing perovskite solar cells based on the research results of Prof. Atsushi Wakamiya and his team at the university’s Institute for Chemical Research. Perovskite solar cells have the advantages of high-power generation efficiency in low-light environments such as indoors, flexibility, and lighter weight, compared to the current mainstream solar cells. They have great potential to enable power generation on building walls and pillars where existing solar panels are difficult to install, and on warehouse roofs where load-bearing capacity is weak.
MOL PLUS is pleased to participate in this fundraising and views the widespread use of perovskite solar cells as a revolutionary solution that will enable power generation anywhere, indoors or outdoors, at will. Moving forward, the MOL Group plans to study a wide range of applications in the port, logistics, and real property fields, including installation on the decks of freighters and on the roofs and walls of port facilities such as warehouses and terminal cargo handling centers.
MOL PLUS continually works to generate synergetic effects based on startup companies’ innovative ideas and technologies and the MOL Group’s resources through investment in and collaboration with startups, aiming to create new businesses PLUS new value to the ocean shipping industry and society.
